Moose Hunting

Bull Moose photo by Gerrye Stillman,

It's hard to spend even a few days driving on the Kenai Peninsula without seing at least a few moose. The dense pine forests of the Kenai with its open meadows and numerous ponds and lakes makes the moose a common roadside sight.  Locating a trophy bull moose, however, is another story.

Moose season usually opens in early September and closes a few weeks later.  The Kenai has both open harvest areas and permit only areas, giving ample opportunity for all hunters to get out into the field.  For many locals the annual moose hunt is simply part of their plans for providing winter meat for their families.  State Wildlife regulations allow only the taking of yearling bulls or mature bulls during the hunt.

When you're ready to head out after that big bull, drop on in the Wilderness Way to pickup those last minute essentials to make your hunt safe, warm and successful!
